The next Step.

While the people on earth took their sweet little time to find out that the robots had sent the drone, the evil species already planned their next move. It was obvious that they wanted to attack the earth, specifically Benjiro and his school. The question was when it was going to happen. The training for the younger generation was still going on. While most younger robots were doing fine, there were also weaker, less developed ones who dropped out of the group. One robot that stood out in particular proved to be ready for a big fight. Although  he was part of the younger group he showed off his skills in little trainings and satisfied the instructors. He was destined to attack. His real passion was fighting and achieving the robot’s ultimate goal. Global dominance. He was the son of Hunter 2k, the leader of the robots. Most of his kind called him Junior. He was trained so well that even in his free time he would keep working so he could be as ready as possible for the big attack.
Meanwhile, back on earth Gordon and his crew called out a state of emergency. They started to prepare for any danger. Everybody was worried, especially Itoe. She wasn’t worried for herself. She didn’t want to lose a close friend. Her best friend.

A Glimps of the Past.

„What did Gordon say?“, a natural sense of curiosity came out of Itoe. She was the most mature of the group. Every time something had happened in the past, she was the one to keep her cool and ell everyone what to do. The biggest incident was when wild wolves had attacked a few years ago the school and brutally tried to kill students and teachers. Sadly, they had limited success. While the school had the upper hand because of their already well developed magic, they had to make sacrifices. In honor of a fallen teacher, the school decided to create something to remember him. At the entrance of the school, right in front of the main doors they had built a monument. Although it was made out of hard stone and bronze people remembered him for his soft heart and love for knowledge.
„It is a device which is used to spy on your enemies.“, Benjiro replied instantly. All three, including Notomi were sitting in the lobby. They loved this place because it was quiet most of the times. „I don’t know what that meant guys. To me, Gordon looked very worried… Keep your eyes open guys.“ They looked at each other for some moments. Ben looked at Itoe. Notomi was eating candy. No one knew where she had all that candy. Her pockets were packed. Every money she had must’ve gone into the little shop next to their favorite place. Maybe that was also a reason why Notomi loved this place so much. „I don’t know what’s going to happen, Ben. But somehow, whoever wants to attack, want you. What do you have what enemies desire?“, Itoe said in his direction. He had no reply for that. It started raining. A few minutes ago they heard birds sing outside. All that noise faded away. It looked like a big storm was ready to hit the school. Was that a metaphor?

Disturbing news.

The next morning Ben was planning his day. After his early morning history lesson, he would knock at the door of the headmaster’s office. The theme of the lesson was old school magic. Benjiro was sitting in the last row next to Itoe. She was still thinking about the letter and the inevitable dangers that may or may not occur in the coming weeks. „Most wands some centuries ago were made out of birch wood. The richer among the society let them manufacture their wands out of mahogany.“, Mrs. Kim shouted and woke some from their daydream. She had been their history teacher since they had joined the school. She was a middle-aged brunette with glasses. Some students identified her lessons as the more relaxing ones. They tend to pay attention to other things like other students or their phones. But not Ben. He loved history. He had a passion for magic in it’s baby steps. The development and discoveries of the past was really his passion. His friends never seem to have that much interest in it, but sometimes he just didn’t care and went on to talk about a certain topic for hours, sometimes even for days. Recently, he wanted to find out everything about the battle his mother was involved in. So far, he didn’t stumble upon anything.
After the bell rang, everybody got up and packed together their stuff. Every student was walking toward their locker to get ready for the next period. Benjiro thought otherwise. In his backpack he had the unidentified object for the headmaster. He didn’t tell anybody about it. He struggled to fall asleep last night. His mind was racing. He was asking himself so many questions. About him. About his mother. About the mysterious thing on the ledge. Why it landed on his of all windows.
Benjiro knocked on the door, hoping for some answers. „Mr. Gordon?“, Benjiro’s voice filled with a little bit of sadness. All of a sudden the door opened. Mr. Gordon was an American. He started taking over the school a few years ago after his japanese forerunner announced his retirement.
„Ben, it’s nice to see you. Why did you decide to knock on my door?“, his voice was very deep and manly. „Something woke me last night. Some weird object landed on my window ledge.“, the teenager was still looking for answers. Ben handed Mr. Gordon the metallic device. After receiving the item, he sat down in shock. He was looking back and forth between Ben and the device. „That’s highly worrying, Ben.“, Gordon finally began to talk. „I’ve just recently talked with my colleagues about that. This, my young friend is a drone.“, Ben wanted to know more. „So who sent it? And why?“
„Judging by the material and the high-tech manufacturing, this comes from a more progressed race than we are. Someone is trying to spy on us. We will further investigate. For now, you can leave, Benjiro. Thank you very much for coming to me.“, he seemed to be in a rush.

„Sure. No problem Sir.“, Ben left Mr. Gordon’s office. While he his worries rose from all the things that have happened recently, he was happy to eat lunch with his friends. And who knows. Maybe Notomi shared his food with him again.

Discovering the Past and the Future.

While the robots planned their next move, Benjiro couldn’t sleep. Back on earth life seemed to go by very fast. Ben didn’t really pay attention in any class. Everything he could think about was the letter. He had already read it, but still didn’t know whether he should tell his friends about it or not. But today was the day. Today he would have the guts to sit them down in his room and talk about it. Right before dinner he texted them to come to his room. Minutes later they would all be together. „Mr. Ackerman gave me a letter a few weeks ago.“, he said while hoping that they would keep the information to themselves. „Really? What does it say?“, Itoe replied with curiosity.
„It’s from my mother.“
„Wait. Really?“
„Yes. Really. He gave it to me last week after the lesson.“
„This is very interesting. Tell us about it already!“, Notomi joined the conversation.
They kept talking and the girls paid close attention to Benjiro. His mother wrote that she played a big role in one of the biggest fights in the history. She was fighting for the rights of the human race. She also mentioned that he fought alongside Michael. Thinking that she might lose her life in this war she prepared this letter for Benjiro. Over some pages she explained how her had suddenly turned and what that meant for the family. Eventually, the human race won the war, but that wasn’t it. They knew that the humans were not safe for long. Together with Ben’s dad they tried everything to guarantee him a good education. They had all their hopes for the future on him. Long story short. His purpose of life was saving the world. Itoe and Notomi had different reactions. First of all, Notomi was eating chips all the time since Ben started explaining. Itoe was worried for him. She knew the risks involved. „No matter what happens Ben. I’ll always fight next to you. You will never be on your own.“, she paused for a second. „That’s what we are here for guys. We are getting prepared for situations like this. I admit, I didn’t expect it to be such an intense situation, but still. That’s why we are in this school.“ Ben nodded in appreciation.
The rest of the evening was eventless. They ate together and spoke about everyday stuff. After the little get - together they returned to their rooms and soon after went to sleep.

A few hours later, Ben awoke all of a sudden. He turned to his bedside table to check the time. It was 3:42 am. He woke up because of a noise outside. He was rubbing his eyes to clear his vision. He sat up, got into his slippers and walked towards the window. There was something laying on the ledge. Benjiro was uneasy about it. He didn’t know what it was. Also, he was too tired to have a clear mind. He opened the window, grabbed whatever it was and laid it next to his bed. On the next day he would bring it to the headmaster’s office to let him investigate. It's a fact that the whole school would worry about it. But for now, all he wanted to do was go back to sleep.

The other side.

Meanwhile, a few lightyears away from the planet earth, robots were the popularity of the planet Jord. Rumors said that Jord was one of the darkest and fearsome planets. The purpose of the robots is to rule the world and present their dominance over other races. The robots had extremities like humans but they could turn their legs into wheels. The leader of the evil race was an old, experienced robot called Hunter 2k. Under his instructions, they regularly tried to come up with new gadgets, new weapons or any new ideas to improve their chances on ruling the world. The population was about 500 to 600 robots. The age difference varied from very young to middle aged. Hunter 2k already belonged to the older members of the community. The hope lied in the younger generation. They were trained to destroy everything that would cross their path. No matter the race. No matter the cost. Due to their advantage in terms of technology they were a fear to most other races out there. Benjiro and everybody else at his school had already learned about the robots in school. The problems human had with robots was, that they lacked information about them. But not only them also their planet. These robots usually kept everything to themselves. However, they would always try to find out information about their enemies. Spying on other races was an everyday thing. Robots loved to have the upper hand. Actually, their latest plan will not make Benjiro and the other humans happy…

Cooking with Mrs. Nacho.

Ben told his friends to meet him for lunch, turned around and looked at his teacher. He realized how big Ackerman’s eyes have gotten. „I know this might sound crazy. But I have something for you.“ he paused to look at Benjiro. He got curious. „Okay what is it?“ he asked with high expectations. His teacher turned to his desk and started searching the drawers. He seemed to be a little nervous. The young boy wondered what it could be. After receiving his „gift“, he would've never thought that it could be something like that. Michael gave him an envelope. On the front it said „For Benjiro“. The handwriting looked like it was written by a woman. „I want you to read and understand every single word written in that letter, you got that?“ Ackerman said with a stern look on his face. He didn't reply anything. He just nodded. After putting the letter in his bag and thanking his teacher for giving it to him, he walked out of the classroom and looked forward to eat with his friends.
The magical cooking class was held by a young blonde lady who already published some cooking books. She enjoyed a decent amount of fame and decided to pass on her knowledge to the younger generation. Her name was Akira Nacho. She had changed her last name so she could keep her personal life private. Every day, during lunch break she showed her students new recipes, which ingredients to combine and helpful tricks for a great meal. Ben rejoined Itoe and Notomi. He was very happy to see them. Also, he procrastinated, whether he should tell his friends the news or not. Either way, he was very hungry so he paid attention to what Mrs. Nacho was talking about. The topic of today’s lesson was „the perfect steak“. One more reason to listen carefully. „Do not overcook your steak. If you want your steak to be perfect you can not take your eyes off it.“ she said with a little american accent in her voice. All the years she had spent overseas definitely had some impact on her. „For side dishes you can choose rice, any variation of potatoes or noodles. Bon appetit everybody!“ After finishing her speech, she walked around to look at what the students had done and help them if they had problems. Benjiro wasn’t what you would call a good cook. But he loved food. He wanted to improve his skills and one could even see that he had some sparks where he cooked amazingly well. So he definitely had potential. „What are you looking at?“ Mrs. Nacho woke Ben from a daydream. „Keep your eye on your meat!“, her voice filled with anger. He had burned his steak. Sadly, he had to take it off the grill and throw it away. Notomi was the complete opposite of Ben. Cooking was her passion. She had read a lot of Akira’s books and was secretly a huge fan. During the holidays, she also watched her appear on TV a lot. „Ben. I’m not very hungry. If you want we can share. I think my steak will taste great.“ Ben was very thankful for that offer. His hunger even pushed away the thoughts about the letter. He decided to read the letter before telling his friends about it. But first. Food. Notomi’s steak tasted great and they were laughing a lot while eating. Notomi suddenly shouted „Vitrum Aqua!“ and out of the blue every one had a glass of water standing in front of them. However, Ben would’ve preferred a cold glass of Moutain Dew.

Defence against evil races.

The first lesson of the new year was control and study of magic spells. The teacher in this class was a world famous wizard from England and his name was Michael Ackerman. Legends tell the story, that he once - before he became a teacher - fought a battle with the mightiest of enemies. Over the years a few evil groups of wizards tried to attack those wizards who try to defend the world. However, every time he was asked about this epic battle, he ignored it or refused to give an answer. It was his first year in this school, but the headmaster was very honored to have him in his group of teachers.
„Everybody please sit down!“, Ackerman said. „Today we are going to learn about relatively new magic spell, which can be used against any type of enemy.“ Suddenly there was a loud yawn that came out of the last row. It was Notomi. She never seemed to care all that much about this lesson. She was more into evil races. „Today we will learn about a spell called ignis.“ he continued as if nothing had happened. „It suits well for fights with basically anything. From normal flesh to even metal.“ Everyone started to follow the teachers instruction and swung their magic wand. Not everyone succeeded at first. Even Benjiro failed his first attempt. Ackerman walked up to him and said „you have to say it with more force in your voice. You have to be confident. That’s one of the most important things if you want be a good wizard.“ After a few more attempts later the school bell rang and the teacher dismissed his students. Everyone except for one. When Benjiro packed his things and wanted to walk out he heard Ackerman say „wait Ben!“ as if he had something important to tell him. Something that couldn't wait.

Going back to school.

The rest of his month of vacation were not exactly rosy. Right after the funeral he had to pack all his stuff he had in the little apartment where he lived with his dad. He couldn't live alone so the only way to have a roof over his head was to live in the orphanage. As soon as he had moved in there he got really quiet. He had no interest in talking to people, meeting people or even leave his bed. He was feeling very weak. Pretty understandable when a 18 year old boy loses his entire family.
Benjiro didn’t like a single other kid in the orphanage. Being 18 years old, he felt like he was the most mature and most grown up in this group. The rest of his so-called vacation went on without anything noteworthy. He was actually pretty happy to go back to school. The thing about this school is that it wasn't a regular school. Benjiro’s father sent him to an elite school to prepare him for anything bad happening. Mate always said two things to his son. The first thing was that he always believed in his son and pinned all his hopes on him. The second thing was to always be ready. Ready for the evil to strike when he leasts expects it.
In this school they learned to control magic spells to defeat whatever evil that stood in their way. Also, they had classes in selfdefense and evil races. For some diversity they also had a magical cooking class and to appreciate the deceased wizards of the past, they learned about the history.
His two best friends at school were two girls called Itoe and Notomi. They’ve known each other since the first day of school. This must’ve been already 5 years ago. They seemed to connect right from the start and all of them were happy to be in this special school together. The location of the school is undisclosed for safety reasons. It would've been easy to track it down and maybe plan something.
When Ben told the two girls about what happened during his vacation, Itoe started crying. She was feeling so sorry for him. She knew exactly what his situation was looking like and she couldn't even imagine going through something like this. Notomi was trying to cheer Ben up with some candy but he refused to take them. That was the one thing Notomi always had. She always carried a little bag around. Most people thought in it were things that she needed for school but Benjiro and Itoe knew that the content of that bag was like 90% candy and 10% makeup. She never had anything prepared for class. Out of those three she was the messiest.
The interesting thing about Itoe was, that she had a secret. A secret that not even her closest friends knew. The fact that she had one leg made out of metal was visible. The reason or rather the story behind that was unclear. That’s just something she doesn't want to talk about. It made her feel uncomfortable.

Either way, they had to get ready for class, so they each went to get their stuff, except for Notomi. She kept laying on the bed eating. Ben didn't know what it was but he had feeling that this year of school was going to be…different.

Introduction.

A dark day has occurred in the lives of many. Rain was pouring in bunches. The location. Kagoshima, Japan. Tears were running down a lot of faces. The spirits in general were running low. Everything looked so lifeless. As if someone ended the life of every single living thing. The most tears were shed by a young, grieving teenager who looked lost. His name was Benjiro Takahashi. The sad occasion was the funeral of the legendary police chief Mato Takahashi, father of Benjiro. He had done his job for two and a half decades and was arguably the most respected man in his field. The fact that he was shot in the head without hesitation made it even more tragic. Benjiro, who already grew up without a mother, now lost every part of family that he ever had in his life. Social interactions were not his strong point. He never felt like being a part of a family. He had his dad, who cared for him and made sure to raise him well. Besides that, he had his friends at school. But with them he didn't want to talk about feelings or anything that related to his personal life.
The funeral went on and the rain got stronger and stronger. After the ceremony, that made many burst into tears again, people got together in little groups and talked about the man of the hour.  Benjiro took a moment for himself and his dad. He walked up to his grave, kneeled down and whispered. „Thank you for everything you’ve done for me. For many you have been a great man. But for me, you have been so much more. A father. A mentor. A role model. No one understands me like you do. I will never forget what you have done for me. Rest in peace, dad...“ A tear was slowly moving down his cheek. Benjiro never expected this day to come so soon.

The End.

What he saw were two words. Written right across the front door. The words were written in blood. Jason wondered if that was the blood of his wife. Suddenly he heard a noise behind him. He quickly turned around but nothing was there. Jason was terrified. He had never felt this much anxiety in his life. The words on the door were "You're next." That was it. Nothing else. All the lights in the house were turned off. It was pitch black. He was really scared but found enough curiousity in him to slowly open the door. If someone was in that house, he or she definitely heard Jason thanks to the loud squeak of the door. It always made that noise. Jason pulled out his phone and turned on his little flashlight. He was barely able to see anything. The first thing he did was sneak into the kitchen. There was nobody there. The house had this weird smell to it. Jason knew that something was.. off. Maybe he didn't have to look for the criminal. Maybe he came to Jason. He wanted to erase that thought instantly. When he looked around the kitchen he saw that one big kitchen knife was missing. Of course one thing crossed his mind but like the other thought he just wanted to forget it.
After looking around the mainfloor and the first floor, there was only one thing left to check. The basement. Jason could feel his fear growing. He had no other choice than to check. Obviously he could call the police again but he was scared that something would happen to his wife when the criminal heard the sirens. He openend the basement door. It was ever darker downstairs. He went slowly. Step by step. That lightbulb that was turned on was the only source of light beside his flashlight. Wait. The lightbulb. Jason had a flash of insight. The picture on his phone. It was the same lightbulb. When he reached the bottom of the staircase he looked around and suddenly saw a body. It was his wife. She was tied onto a chair. She wasn't lying on the floor like on the picture. That meant somebody was here. Jason felt more in danger than ever before. He started sweating again. He thought about his next movement. He thought he would get jumped if he just walked up to his lifeless wife. But he had to. He loved this woman to death. He would do anything for her. He had never seen his wife like this. He wanted to untie her but all of a sudden the lightbulb went out. Jason couldn't see a thing. It was also too dangerous to turn on the flashlight again. He wanted to feel her. He realized that he might had not much time left in his life. He touched his wife. And strangely enough, he felt a sense of happiness. A sense of content. A sense of love. Those feelings went away in a hurry when he heard footsteps. The footsteps came closer. Jason knew that it was soon to be over with him. "Why are you doing this to me and my family?!" Jason shouted with a lot of force in his voice. "For fun." was the dry answer of the criminal. It was a mature, manly voice. The footsteps came even closer. The man must've stood right in front of him. He knew his smell. It was a famous parfume. Before Jason could do anything, he felt a knife in his chest. He saw his life flashing before his eyes. Every memory he had. Every memory he wanted to make. Everything was just... gone. Out of reach. He fell to the floor, coughing. These were his last moments. "I.. I.. love you Baby." were the last words he ever said. His voice never was that soft and powerless. He closed his eyes and stopped breathing.
To this day this case never got solved.

The second to last part. Buckle up Ladies and Gentleman.

"It can't be true. Something must have went wrong." The lady said in a sad tone. "Just tell me already!" Jason got a bit louder but had himself under control. "The number doesn't exist. We have looked through every file. Searched everything. Nothing." The lady looked at Jason with her big blue eyes and she saw how his eyes got watery. That was it. A few hours ago his life was normal. Nothing special but normal. And all of a sudden everything falls apart. Thanks to one call. One text. One picture. "What do i do now..?" Jason's voice got very soft. "Drive home. Try to get some sleep. We will try our best to find anything and we will contact you soon."
So Jason listened. He already knew that he wouldn't get any sleep. He didn't even know what to expect when he got home. Where was his son? Was he safe? Or did he get kidnapped and hurt as well? The only thing Jason could do was find out. So he did that. He drove home. On his way he thought about how the person did that. How can you have a phone and can't be tracked. No one knew who he or she was. No one. Jason got really angry on his way home. When he arrived at his home he got out of the car. It was already very dark outside. The only light source was the moon and the fading light of the car. He walked up to the front door. The next thing he saw almost made him unconscious...

To be continued.

A (still) random, (still) unfinished story

Bildergebnis für dark sky

Jason didn't really know why but he was scared. He was terrified that something had happenend to his wife. Or his son. Or even both. It was like he forgot how to drive a car. His mind was racing. He procrastinated whether he should return the call. Or look at the text. He decided to look at the text first. It suddenly stopped raining. The world outside was quiet. Too quiet. But John didn't seem to care. I think that's called living in the moment. He openend his messages. There was that mysterious number again. When he opened the text, he couldn't believe his eyes. There was no message. There was just a picture. John didn't really spot any humans or shapes or anything so he increased the brightness on his phone. Looking at the picture now I guess he would have wished to never see something like that. The picture showed his wife. Lying on the floor. With cuts in her face and tears running down her cheeks. The room was very dark. One lightbulb for an entire room just isn't enough. Well. It was enough for somebody. Jason didn't know how to feel. Everything seemed so... empty. His world was collapsing. People that walked by his car already asked if he was okay. But he didn't notice them. All he could think about was his wife. And who did this to her. And how he was gonna save her. The problem was that he had no information. Heck, he didn't even know why someone would do something like that to any of his family members. His life was completely ordinary. He never got into fights, he never did anything that could haunt him in the future. He was a well educated, reasonable man.
He suddenly got an idea. There was one mistake this man or woman made. They showed their phone number. The police should be able to track the phone down, see who it belongs to and arrest him or her. That was what he was going to do. He started the engine back up and went on the quickest route. The only two things he needed right now were help and information. The police would be a good place to maybe get both.

To be continued.
